Academic and Leadership Stoles

Honoring the achievements of our diverse student populations at New Mexico State University is the driving force behind the Hispanic Faculty/Staff Caucus.

These stoles are awarded to graduating students who are either Latino/a, leaders in ethnic student organizations, and/or have displayed exemplary leadership qualities on campus or in their community. For a student to be fully considered for this honor, the below application must be completed by the date published on the home page.

Applicants will be notified via email if they have been selected to receive a stole.

Student leaders who are of either Latino/a, African American, Anglo or Native American background are also eligible to wear a diversity stole by meeting one of two requirements.

Not all students who have applied or been nominated will be awarded a stole.  A committee will review all applications and nominations and select the students.  Awardees will be recognized at a ceremony hosted by the Hispanic Faculty/ Staff Caucus and Chicano Programs.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • Must be a student in good standing with NMSU

OR

  • Must have demonstrated leadership characteristics on campus or in their community

Graduation & Leadership Stole Nomination Form

If you know a student or students who are graduating this semester, please take the time to nominate them for a stole. This is a great way to recognize our graduating students. This applies to students graduating from any of our community colleges or obtaining their Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degrees from NMSU. We are also requesting that nominators help defray the cost of the stole, if possible.  Stoles cost $25 each.
