Outstanding Awards for Faculty, Staff, and Students

 

 

The Outstanding Faculty, Staff, and Student Awards recognize outstanding scholarship, research, service or mentoring activities at the academic unit, college, or university level; or service to the community utilizing professional expertise during the past ten years. Priority is given to individuals who are members of the Hispanic Faculty and Staff Caucus.  The awards are as follows:

  • The Senior Faculty Award and the Junior Faculty Award will be presented to our faculty, who contributed to scholarship, maintained an active research agenda, and participated in service or mentoring activities.
  • The Professional Staff Award will be awarded to a member who contributed to academic programs or university operations at NMSU and who promoted diversity throughout the year.
  • The Mentorship Award will presented to either a faculty or staff person or Graduate Assistant, who actively mentored NMSU students.
  • The Outstanding Graduate Student Award will be presented to a graduating graduate student, who has contributed to NMSU and the Hispanic community via service and academics.

Nomination Requirements:

Outstanding Senior Faculty Nominator – Please type your answers to the following questions below in order to complete the application process.

  1. Describe nominee’s teaching excellence as evidenced by effectiveness and ability to motivate and inspire students in the classroom and outside the classroom. Mentoring of Hispanic students during the teaching process will receive priority in the evaluation process. Discuss the nominee’s academic or leadership experience at NMSU.
  2. How has nominee demonstrated an active research agenda that includes research grants, conference presentations, community presentations and publications?
  3. Highlight the nominee’s service activities and describe how the service activities benefited NMSU and the Hispanic community.

 Outstanding Junior Faculty Nominator – Please type your answers to the following questions below in order to complete the application process.

  1. Describe nominee’s teaching excellence as evidenced by effectiveness and ability to motivate and inspire students in the classroom and outside the classroom. Mentoring of Hispanic students during the teaching process will receive priority in the evaluation process.

  1. Describe nominee’s administrative excellence as evidenced by nominee’s contributions to academic programs or university operations at NMSU.
  2. Highlight the nominee’s service activities and describe how the service activities benefited NMSU and the Hispanic community.

Outstanding Mentor Award Nominator – Please type your answers to the following questions below in order to complete the application process.

  1. Describe the nominee’s mentoring activities in detail. Mentorship of students represents the focus of mentoring activities being recognized.
  2. How many students or colleagues were mentored and for what length of time?
  3. How did the mentorship activities of the nominee contribute to the retention or graduation of Hispanic students?

Outstanding Graduate Student Award Nominator – Please type your answers to the following questions below in order to complete the application process.

  1. Describe the nominee’s academic achievements and their contribution to the Hispanic community at NMSU. Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Describe the nominee’s leadership activities and service activities.
